The Microbiology Division provides testing support which includes a microbial reference section for all sentinel hospitals in the District, food and environmental microbiology testing and the PulseNet laboratory for microbial genotyping, salmonella, E. coli and Bacillus species.

In addition to federal grants, DOH also receives funds from private organizations.  These are not considered grants, but donations and the process is monitored carefully by the Office of the City Administrator and a Donation Manager appointed by the Mayor.
