Special Events - HEPRA

Medical Aid Station

Special Events are monitored by the Special Operations Division of the Department of Health, located in the Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Administration (HEPRA). All special events that occur in the District are required to have a Health, Medical and Safety Plan that is approved by the Special Operations Division of the Department of Health. You can find additional information on planning for special events on our Special Event Medical Planning page. We also offer a planning guide that you can download from that page that will assist you in developing the plan.

The Special Operations Division, in conjunction with the DC Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency, is involved in planning for large special events in which the Department of Health plays a more active role. Events such as the Presidential Inaugurations and July 4 Celebrations will involve the personnel from the Medical Reserve Corp and the Department of Health in staffing aid stations and providing medical care.



Due to Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued guidance for special event organizers responsible for planning mass gatherings.
