Special events held in the District are monitored by DC Health's Office of Emergency Preparedness (OEPR) within in the Health Systems and Preparedness Administration (HSPA). All special events that occur in the District are required to have a Health, Medical and Safety Plan that is approved by OEPR.

The Office of Emergency Preparedness and Resilience, in conjunction with the DC Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency (HSEMA), is involved in planning for large special events in which DC Health plays a more active role. Events such as Presidential Inaugurations and July 4 celebrations involve personnel from DC Health as well as volunteers from the Medical Reserve Corp staffing aid stations and providing medical care.
