The data in this diagram shows estimates of vaccination coverage (the percentage of people who are vaccinated) in the District of Columbia for children age 5 who received two doses of MMR. Two doses of MMR received by age 5 was chosen as the indicator because most adults were vaccinated with MMR as children. Vaccination with two doses of MMR has been shown to be 97% effective at preventing measles. The higher the vaccine coverage in a community, the lower the risk that a vaccine-preventable disease will spread if the community is exposed. The data is from the DC Health Immunization Registry. Known as DOCIIS (the District of Columbia Immunization Information System), it holds the immunization records for DC residents, both children and adults, and visitors who were vaccinated in DC beginning in 2001. All vaccines administered in DC are required to be reported to DC Health. Anyone can access a copy of their immunization record, or their child's record, by visiting Immunization Records Docket.
This page will be refreshed monthly as vaccination coverage rates can change due to children ageing into eligible windows. Additional vaccine coverage data will be added over time.
