CURRENT HOURS of OPERATION

 

WALK-UP SERVICES:  Available Monday and Tuesday 9am - 1pm  |  Wednesday 9am - 330pm  |  Thursday and Friday 9am - 1pm

Walk-up services are available for customers to request birth, death and domestic partnership certificates.  Service wait times can be found here: https://www.dcvsims.com/public/waittimes.

 

APPOINTMENT SERVICES:

1. Birth, Death and Domestic Partnership Certificates – make an appointment at https://dchealth.dc.gov/page/vital-records-appointments or call (202) 442-9303 option 1 and then option 9.
2. Domestic Partnership Registration and Termination – make an appointment at https://dchealth.dc.gov/page/vital-records-appointments or call (202) 442-9303 option 1 and then option 9.
3. Out of Institution Birth Registration – send an email to [email protected] to schedule an appointment. As was required prior to the pandemic, appointments are required for out of institution birth registration services.
4. Delayed Birth Registration - send an email to [email protected] to schedule an appointment. As was required prior to the pandemic, appointments are required for delayed registration of birth services.
5. Voluntary Acknowledgement of Parentage (AOP) Services – make an appointment at https://dchealth.dc.gov/page/vital-records-appointments or call (202) 442-9303 option 1 and then option 9. Appointments are required for AOP services.

• Appointment holders will be given a 15-minute grace period. If you arrive after the grace period, you may be asked to reschedule your appointment in consideration of other scheduled customers.
• If you are unable to select highlighted days on the calendar, all appointments have been booked for this month. Please check the next month.
• If the calendar will not advance to the next month, there are no future appointments available at this time. Please check back later.

Please allow 2-4 weeks for remote order processing time. Shipping times will vary based on shipping method selected by customer.

 

AMENDMENT SERVICES:

1. Walk-up amendment services are available for submitting amendment applications and payment processing. Amendment applications will be examined and decisions determined within 10 - 15 business days. Amendment customers will receive notification to make payment for approved applications. If an amendment application is denied, customers will receive a denial letter detailing requirements for approval, which may include petitioning the appropriate court. Masks are required. Customers must wear a mask that covers your nose and mouth before entering the building.

We take data privacy very seriously, and this includes protecting sensitive personal information that’s not considered a public record in the District of Columbia. Please make sure you have the documents you need to prove your identity and your entitlement to the certificate and that you’re ready to pay the fee. Be prepared for phone and in-person wait times, and allow processing and shipping time for phone, on-line and mail orders. Processing and shipping times vary by vendor.
