World AIDS Day takes place on the 1st December each year. It’s an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, to show support for people living with HIV, and to commemorate those who have died from an AIDS-related illness. Founded in 1988, World AIDS Day was the first ever global health day.

• 2017 Regional HIV/AIDS Policy and Planning Summit (RHAPPS)

  The Alexandria Commission on HIV/AIDS plans to host the Regional HIV/AIDS Policy and Planning Summit (RHAPPS) during calendar year 2017. The purpose of RHAPPS is to convene policy experts (legislative advocacy), community-based organizations, health practitioners, advocacy organizations, health department staff, government officials, faith leaders, faith-based organizations, HIV networks, and other key individuals that work within the HIV/AIDS field. RHAPPS will give the opportunity to establish best practices and lessons learned within HIV/AIDS advocacy, care, prevention, and support and treatment areas with different interlocutors. This pan-regional convening will include members from the communities of the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia. This will be the first of its kind to bring together various interlocutors working within the domestic response combating HIV/AIDS.
