An outbreak of pneumonia of unknown etiology in Wuhan City was initially reported to WHO on December 31, 2019. Chinese health authorities have now confirmed hundreds of infections with a novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) as the cause of the outbreak. Cases have now been identified outside of Wuhan, including internationally. The first case in the United States (US) was identified in Washington state on January 21, 2020. This Health Notice update provides situational awareness and guidance for evaluation of patients under investigation (PUI) for 2019-nCoV, prevention and infection control guidance, including the addition of an eye protection recommendation, and additional information on specimen collection.
