CEU Requirements for Psychologists and Psychology Associates

Psychologists and Psychology Associates are required to have 30 APA-approved hours earned during the current licensure cycle. The effective date for the cycle begins the day immediately following the expiration of the previous cycle and ends on the current expiration date. Within those 30 APA-approved hours, at least 3 hours in ethics, 2 hours in LGBTQ and 10% (3 hours) in public health priorities. The 10% (3 hours) of Public health priorities topics can be found in here: https://dchealth.dc.gov/sites/default/files/dc/sites/doh/service_content/attachments/Updated%20Public%20Health%20Priorities%20for%20Continuing%20Education%20Requirements%20for%20Health%20Professionals%20pub%20031425.pdf. At least 15 hours must be in live program.

Important Note: Licensees with less than two (2) years on their current license cycle are only required to complete 50% of the standard Continuing Education (CE) requirement. All mandatory content areas—including LGBTQ+ and DC Health public health priorities—must still be completed in full.

  • 15 APA-approved hours of continuing education. These hours must be obtained within the effective date of the license to its expiration date. Within those 15 hours, at least 1.5 hours in ethics, 2 hours in LGBTQ and 10% (1.5 hours) in public health priorities. At least 7.5 hours must be in live program.

Definition: Per the regulations, live programs are defined as – continuing education activities that provide for direct, real-time interaction between presenter(s) and participants and may include, inter alia, lectures, symposia, live teleconferences, live webinars, workshops.

**First-time renewal applicants are exempt from CEs.
