The Molecular Biology Division includes the Virology and core Molecular Biology sections. The division provides testing for viruses of public health significance such as rabies, West Nile Virus, Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE).
The core Molecular Biology section performs PCR testing for seasonal and pandemic influenza, Norovirus and Enteroviruses and Arboviruses.
The core Virology section provides stat testing for rabies specimens in the District. Research specimens from research departments from the sentinel labs in the area are also tested.
This section also provides molecular detection of food-borne disease agents and bioterrorism agents.
