The HIV/AIDS epidemic in the District of Columbia continues to present a major public health challenge. Although significant strides in the diagnosis, treatment and survival of those living with HIV and AIDS have
occurred both nationally and locally, the District remains a city with one of the highest burdens of the disease in the United States.
