Climate adaptation is crucial for Washington, D.C., as the city faces challenges posed by climate change; rising temperatures, increased flooding, and severe weather. DC Health’s Climate Adaptation program prioritizes protecting its residents from adverse weather like extreme heat as our city gets hotter. We work to strengthen community resilience by sharing heat safety information, expanding access to cooling resources, enhancing emergency preparedness, promoting sustainable practices, and supporting vulnerable groups including older adults, children, individuals with chronic illnesses, outdoor workers, and D.C. residents. The climate adaptation programs work to ensure residents and visitors have the tools and resources to stay safe and protected in a changing climate. Our Program aims to build a more sustainable and equitable future for all.
