  Family and Medical Counseling Services has two mobile units that provide needle exchange and harm reduction services to some of Washington, DC’s neighborhoods that are impacted by drug use.

• Honoring Individual Power and Strength (HIPS)
  HIPS offers syringe exchange services for people who inject drugs, people who inject hormones, and diabetics at their drop-in center and satellite center at the Downtown Day Services Center, as well as on their mobile van. HIPS also offers Naloxone, safer sex supplies, medication-assisted treatment, clinical care, case management, and other services for people engaged in sex work or drug use.

  For over 30 years, Us Helping Us has been providing innovative care and services to improve the health and well-being of Black, gay men. We work every day to reduce the impact of HIV/AIDS in the entire Black community by providing care to anyone who walks through our door. Us Helping Us works tirelessly to address the existing health disparities for underserved and marginalized communities, particularly Black men who have sex with men, Black transgender women, and other sexual minorities. Us Helping Us provides needle exchange services at both their main DC location and via a mobile unit.

The DC Needle Exchange Program (DC NEX) will keep our communities safe by stopping the spread of HIV/AIDS, hepatitis, and connecting people to the health services they need. The District of Columbia Department of Health, HAHSTA supports comprehensive harm reduction programs. This includes:

• a needle exchange program that works to reduce the numbers of injection drug users (IDU) who are infected with HIV in the District

• helping to increase the number of District residents who know their HIV and Hepatitis C status, and

• insuring people with HIV and Hepatitis have access to care and treatment.
