DC Department of Health Offices Will NOT Reopen on June 2, 2011

Thursday, June 2, 2011
Several DOH facilities lost power again after power was restored yesterday evening.

The DC Department of Health (DOH) announced today that its offices will not reopen and operate during normal business hours as of today, Thursday, June 2, 2011.  After PEPCO successfully restored power to several DOH facilities late yesterday evening, power was lost again after being turned on for about two hours.  During the time power was restored, all DOH buildings were being prepped for occupancy.

The power outage will again affect DOH facilities at 899 North Capitol Street, NE and 1300 First Street, NE.  DOH offices at these locations first lost power Tuesday afternoon around 4:00 pm when a power outage occurred in the surrounding area.  PEPCO continues to work around the clock to restore power at each location and has estimated that power will be restored at each DOH facility later this afternoon.

Despite issues with power, DOH has continued to provide residents with the majority of services through community partners.  In addition, DOH staff has been able to provide services through its Immunization, STD, and TB clinics, along with the Pharmacy Warehouse, its Assessment and Referral Center and Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Administration (HEPRA).

All professional licensing and issuance of birth and death certificate services that occur at 899 North Capitol Street, NE, and all services at 1300 First Street, NE are expected to resume tomorrow, Friday, June 3, 2011.
