(WASHINGTON, DC) – On Tuesday, September 19, at 1:30 pm, Mayor Muriel Bowser will announce the District’s Health Systems Plan, a roadmap on how to leverage high-quality medical services and facilities to address chronic health inequities, including gaps in primary, specialty and mental health care. The Bowser Administration will use the data from the Health Systems Plan to promote engagement in appropriate, quality, and timely primary care services, including preventive, acute and chronic disease management services; reduce inappropriate utilization of care, especially in emergency rooms; consider the social determinants as part of reducing health disparities; and review and strengthen uncompensated care and community benefit programs and policies.

The District’s Health Systems Plan is part of a series of public health initiatives from Mayor Bowser, including a coordinated effort to combat opioid use disorder and care coordination initiatives to aid Medicaid beneficiaries with chronic conditions.
