Community Health Administration leader LaQuandra Nesbitt will begin her new position next month.

(Washington, DC) – The DC Department of Health (DOH) today announced the departure of Senior Deputy Director of the Community Health Administration (CHA), Dr. LaQuandra Nesbitt.  Dr. Nesbitt will leave her current position at DOH to transition into her new role as the Health Director of the Louisville Metro Government Department of Public Health and Wellness (LMPHW) in July.  In addition to her new role as Health Director, Dr. Nesbitt will also become Assistant Professor of the Department of Health Management and Systems Sciences, School of Public Health and Information Sciences at the University of Louisville.

“I would like to congratulate Dr. Nesbitt for receiving such an important and influential leadership opportunity to serve the residents of Kentucky,” said Mayor Vincent C. Gray. “I am grateful for her years of dedication and service to our community and wish her the very best as she steps out to lead Louisville’s Health Department.”

Dr. Richard A. Levinson, who currently holds the position of Deputy Director for Policy and Programs at CHA, will serve as the Interim Senior Deputy Director until a permanent replacement is announced.

Dr. Nesbitt is a true public servant and a strong leader who has had a profound impact on the areas of primary care, community outreach, and policy, planning and evaluation over the course of her three year tenure at DOH.  In addition to serving as Senior Deputy Director of CHA, Dr. Nesbitt also served as Interim Medical Director for DOH’s Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Administration (HEPRA) during the region’s H1N1 epidemic.

“Dr. Nesbitt is an outstanding public health leader, an excellent physician, and a superb human being. We are honored that the city of Louisville has chosen such a fine and talented leader from our city and from our agency to assist their community,” said DOH Director Dr. Mohammad Akhter. “We wish her every success in her future endeavors and we look forward to hearing about the outstanding results of her work.”
