DC Health’s Rape Prevention and Education (DC RPE) Program, is located within the Community Health Administration, offers free youth violence/sexual assault prevention education for schools and organizations to improve the health outcomes of District of Columbia. The RPE Program also provides
Goals of RPE include:
- Prevent first time abuse
- Educate and empower youth to identify early signs of abuse
- Empower youth to report abuse when it occurs
- Provide essentials skills for communication, conflict management and resolution, and healthy relationships
- Promote healthy, respectful and safe relationships
- Provide violence prevention trainings to District professionals that support youth
DC Health works with local community-based organizations, non-profits and other DC government agencies to disseminate this information to youth within the District of Columbia.
The RPE program targets grades kindergarten through twelve (K-12), their families, and community members throughout the District of Columbia with an emphasis in Wards 5, 7, and 8. DC RPE provides age-appropriate, evidence-informed and evidence-based violence prevention (specifically sexual violence) curricula. The curricula utilized promote awareness and provide information that can keep students safe by promoting safe and healthy relationship development, reducing teen dating violence, sexual violence, and building communication skills.
