The First Year of Life: Infant Feeding Guide

Breast milk or iron-fortified formula is recommended from birth to 1 year. It provides all the nutrients needed for your baby up to 6 months of age. Other foods are added as your baby gets older.

The following is a suggested guide for adding new foods:

  •     Infant cereal at 4-6 months
  •     Fruit and fruit juice at 6-7 months
  •     Cottage cheese, yogurt, strained meat, chicken, or fish at 6-8 months
  •     "Finger foods" and "table foods" around 8-10 months
  •     No nuts, seeds, or small, hard foods (they can cause choking)
