Mission
The State Health Planning and Development Agency assures the equitable distribution of health services in the District of Columbia through policy formulation and regulatory activities.
Program Description
The State Health Planning and Development Agency:
- Prepares plans for the equal distribution of health resources in the District.
- Administers the Certificate of Need program, reviewing applications for capital expenditures, acquisitions of major medical equipment, and the introduction of new institutional health services.
- Monitors the provision of free services to medically needy residents.
- Collects, maintains, analyzes, and publishes data for the use of public and private health care providers.
- Ensures public participation in health planning and Certificate of Need reviews.
- Increases access to quality health care for uninsured, underserved, and vulnerable residents of the District of Columbia through the Primary Care Office (PCO).
