Child and Residential Care Facilities Division Program Descriptions Child Development Facilities A child development facility is a locations where a child development program is provided for infants or children, away from home, for less than (24) hours per day for each infant or child. The facility may be known as a child development center, child development home, or infant care center, but does not include a public or private elementary or secondary school engaged in legally required educational and related functions. 1.1 Child Development Center A child development center is a child development facility for more than 5 children or infants, that provides a full-day (more than 4 but less than 24 hours per day), part-day (up to 4 hours per day), or before and after school child development program, including programs provided during school vacations. 1.2 Homes A child development home is a child development program that operates in a private residence for up to a total of 5 children and infants, with no more than 2 infants in the group. The total of 5 children and infants shall not include those of the caregiver who are 6 years old or older, provided that the total number of children of the caregiver between the ages of 6 and 15 years shall not exceed 3, and of those 3 children, no more than 2 shall be 10 years old or younger.  1.3 View Current Child Development Centers and Homes in the District of Columbia
